Post Abortion Assessment:
After having any medical procedure done, following up with your healthcare provider is essential. This is especially important if you have had an abortion, whether surgical or medical. Without a post abortion assessment and follow up appointment, undetected complications could be detrimental to your current health or future fertility.
Four to six weeks after your abortion, one of our Registered Nurses will meet with you and assess your health by completing a health questionnaire with you, a set of vital signs including your temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure, and a urine pregnancy test to determine if HCG (the pregnancy hormone) is still present in your system. You will also be given the option to have STI testing at that time. The nurse will consult our physician as necessary to determine whether any further actions are needed to ensure your health and well-being. If the physician decides you need further evaluation, you will be referred to a provider of your choice to complete follow up care, or we can help you find a physician if you need us to.
After your physical assessment with the nurse, you will meet with our Post Abortion Advocate to discuss the emotional and spiritual implications of abortion, share how you are doing with the pain of your loss in a healthy way, and decide if one of our healing programs is right for you. This meeting is a time for you to share about your abortion experience in a safe and confidential environment with someone who has shared in this experience. At this time, we may also provide a referral to a professional counselor.
We serve the whole person, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
