Why do I need an ultrasound?

Ultrasounds are essential when you think you might be pregnant, or if you are confident in your pregnancy. When you have an unplanned pregnancy, three options come to mind: Parenting, Adoption, or Abortion. When the pregnancy is planned, most of the time the couple has already chosen to parent.

With Parenting and Adoption, you carry the child to term and give birth. Ultrasounds are a necessary part of your prenatal care to ensure the baby is in the uterus, that the baby is alive with a heartbeat, and to see how far along you are in your pregnancy.

When a woman considers abortion, an ultrasound is especially crucial. Ultrasounds confirm your pregnancy because some pregnancies end on their own in miscarriage. Why put yourself in the position of paying for and going through the abortion procedure if your pregnancy has already ended? 10-25% of pregnancies end on their own in miscarriage.

Another reason an ultrasound is important before an abortion is to help determine how far along you are in your pregnancy. You will need this information to know which abortion procedure to have done. There are two abortion procedures to choose from, Medical or Surgical Abortion.

Many Pregnancy Resource Centers around the United States provide FREE ultrasounds for women who need this information.  They not only can provide the ultrasound, but give you more factual education on the options that interest you.

Family Life Center in Effingham, IL is one of these centers that can help you with this! Give us a call at 217-342-5433 , email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or reach out to our website www.familylifepcc.org .
